Though it's possible to search the database using any criteria, most of the cartridges can be easily identified from their XCR codes only.

For example, here is how to search for a rimmed cartridge having the following measured dimensions : projectile diameter = 8.85 mm and case length = 53,2 mm.

If you are familiar with the XCR codes, you can write your query in a single step :

- Select "XCR code" (1) in the list.

- Make sure that "=" (2) is selected.

- Type in 09 053 ?B? ??? in the special text box that replaces the text boxes (3a) and (3b).

- Confirm your query by clicking on "OK" (4) and run it by clicking on "Run" (5).

On the contrary, or if your measurements are only approximate, you must write your query step by step :

- Select "Bullet diameter" (1a) in the list. Make sure that "=" (2) is selected and type in '9" in the text box (3) since "09" corresponds to a measured diameter between 8.50 and 9.45 mm. Confirm your query element by clicking on "OK" (4).

- Select "Case length" (1b) in the list. Make sure that "=" (2) is selected and type in "53" in the text box (3a). If need be, you can also type in "1" in the 2nd text box (3b). Confirm your query element by clicking on "OK" (4).

- Select "Base shape" (1c) in the list. Make sure that "=" (2) is selected and select "Rimmed" in the drop-down list that replaces the text boxes (3a) and (3b). Confirm your query element by clicking on "OK" (4).

- Finally run the query by clicking on "Run" (5).
